Our fibre-optic network is a “Next Generation Network” medium. It has an enormous capacity, capable of handling any conceivable data application.
How much capacity? In a typical cable installation we’ll have 96 individual strands of fibre. Each one already carries between one and 40 gigabits per second. As for the future, the laboratory speed record for a single fibre pair now exceeds 16 terabits per second.
That’s a lot of data. In fact, our network has more than enough capacity in one cable to service every single copper DSL connection in New Zealand.
To make that bandwidth easy for you to harness, our network predominantly uses Carrier Ethernet technology (known as “MetroEthernet”) – essentially the same Ethernet “language” used by almost all LANs today. This means you only need an Ethernet port to connect to the VectorFibre network.
The technologies we have chosen to use over the VectorFibre network put one of the world’s most modern and flexible communications networks at your doorstep today. Whatever your requirements, both now and in the future, we can make it happen.
