NEAL (North Shore Education and Access Loop)

What is NEAL?

NEAL is the high-speed fibre network set to revolutionise the way North Shore Schools operate & educate.

As a result of Government funding under the ‘Broadband Challenge’, Vector Communications (in partnership with North Shore City Council) has built an Urban Fibre Network (UFN) within  North Shore City.

Vector Communications will operate and manage the network and will offer secure ‘virtual’ networks over the UFN. One of these ‘virtual’ networks, NEAL (North Shore Education and Access Loop), will serve North Shore schools.

NEAL will link all schools into a single high performance network, with the option to source additional services (e.g. Internet access) independently as required from Service Providers connected to Vector Communications Metro Ethernet network.
Benefits.

NEAL enables schools to:
  • link to other connected schools at speeds up to 1 Gigabit per second;
  • connect to other regional, national and global education and learning initiatives (e.g. The Loop and KAREN), and
  • source high-speed broadband services, e.g. Internet access, on-demand video and teacher training programs. Schools can achieve this either individually or collectively as a group.
